How to make Palitaw!
08.22.08 @ 04:47 AM AEST
I decided to make some Filipino rice balls. It's like mochi, but we call it Palitaw and contains coconut milk and shaved coconut. I swear this is the easiest snack/dessert that you will ever make, and I’ll teach you how.
“Nothing is that simple to cook,” I hear you say. Well, I beg to differ my sweetplum. All you’ll need for this are THREE ingredients:

1. Heat the coconut milk so that any solidified forms are melted. DON'T bring to boil! Once it's melted, take it off the heat and let it cool down.

2. If you want your Palitaw to be coloured, just add a drop of food colouring on the milk and mix. Otherwise, place the rice flour in a bowl and add the coconut milk little by little, mixing it in between.
3. Mix it until it's the consistency of dough. You don't want it to be too gooey like paste:

Or too hard, coz it'll end up like overchewed gum, like these that I made the first time I made Palitaws hahaha:

You'll want it to be sticky, but still able to hold it's shape like play-doh:

If it's too gooey, add more rice flour. If it's too hard, don't add more milk. Add water.
4. Put water on a pan and bring it to boil. Now the traditional Palitaws are formless or round. But stuff that. We'll be creative and go crazy on the shapes Form the rice cakes with your palms and, once the water is boiling, drop them into the water. Cooking it with water will make it more chewy than microwaving it or steaming it
5. It's impossible to overcook this, why? Palitaw literally means to appear, and that's because once it's cooked, it floats to the top. Mad eh?

You can drop in a lot of the rice cakes in the water at the same time, as long as it's boiling. They won't stick together, don't worry =D
6. Spread the dessicated coconut on a plate and just bathe your palitaw with it. Be generous: this is the good stuff!

That's it! Finished! Kapish! This batch only took me 30 mins to make!

If you think it's not sweet enough, just add probably a spoon of suger before you mix in the milk. Oh, and you can put something in the middle if you want. I've never tried it myself, but I guess you can put Nutella, peanut butter, or red bean paste. The traditional palitaw is just plain, usually eaten for breakfast or as an afternoon snack.
Me? It's awesome with coffee!

Cheers!

Damn it I have no time to blog. No time, and I have nothing to blog.
My life has recently been a blur of nothing, books, nothing, music... and did I mention nothing?
So I'll put this blog on hiatus. I'm sorry if I haven't been commenting on your blogs: I read them, I just don't comment...
Does that make me a stalker? o__O

Ahh watched the film that I've been waiting for since last year. Ladies and gentlemen, I've finally watched Narnia. And hell yeah was it such a good film!!! Nah, I won't spoil it for the people who haven't seen it yet, but who here thinks that this boy:

And this boy:

So, I've already watched Narnia (AND YOU MUST WATCH IT TOO!)... now there are a couple more films that I'm looking forward to. Which ones?
Well, these, for starters:

And of course:
(The bastards at WB haven't uploaded the movie poster yet, so Mr Radcliffe would do)
